The problem

In today's interconnected world, the quality of healthcare for linguistically diverse patients is greatly affected by language barriers. Misunderstandings between patients and healthcare providers, arising from language discrepancies, hinder access to crucial health information. This often leads to increased health complications, challenges in medication adherence, and difficulties in managing health conditions independently. Unfortunately, human interpreters are not always available on demand, leaving these patients without the essential support they need.

Our solution – Medivox

Medivox by Supanova Health is a digital health tool that delivers reliable and accessible interpretation tailored for healthcare settings. Medivox combines a database of pre-translated phrases with AI-powered speech recognition and real-time translation to enable safe and flexible language interpretation whenever a human interpreter is not available.

Our journey

Medivox by Supanova Health started in 2023 during the Perth Biodesign course. Our team identified a significant unmet need for medical interpreting among linguistically diverse populations in Australia. About half a million people in Australia are unable to understand medical information due to language barriers.Medivox is currently in its prototyping phase and we are seeking collaboration with health service providers, clinicians, and consumers to test and validate prototype iterations.In 2024, the Supanova Health team has been selected for the CSIRO ON Prime pre-accelerator to further develop Medivox.
